This was a wonderful showcase of talent presented by ACVC. The beautiful playing of flautist Jennifer Bradstreet our Open winner in 2014 accompanied by Maryleigh Hand was a display of virtuosic ability and fine musicianship. The array of vocal music in the programme performed by our very own talented local quartet was a hint of what to expect in the forthcoming competition, where again we will have the opportunity to hear some of the great works of the operatic repertoire covering 17th century to late romantic period.

The event was well-coordinated with all participants proving a pleasure to work with and the programme ran very smoothly and was greatly enjoyed by the rather small but no less appreciative audience.
Many thanks to Kayleen for producing the programme, Bob (President) who chaired the event, Cris who looked after the float and Richard and Pauline Lunn who assisted with front of house duties on the night.
It was my pleasure to do all the early preparations with the four local singers, and greatly appreciated the assistance given by Alyssa Kelly who helped prepare staging the final music theatre items and finale. It was wonderful to have Kelly’s grandfather Rod Wilson provide a light hearted touch to the scene for ‘The Drinking Song’ from “La Traviata” to end the programme.

The Lucky Door Prize donated by Loloma was won by none other than Kelly’s Mum, so I am sure they had a great family night out!

Watch out for our four local singers who are entered in the vocal sections in this years’ competition and we encourage our members not to miss out on a wonderful programme of singing on Friday 24th when we open with the Vocal Section, then Saturday with six vocalists competing in the Open Vocal Preliminary stage who then have to be reduced to three finalists who go on to perform in the Open Finals Concert on Sunday afternoon – 2pm at the Civic Theatre for the major prize donated by new sponsors NQ Employment.
