Spiros Rantos – Instrumental Adjudicator
Spiros was born in Corfu, Greece and studied in Athens, Vienna, Austria and Bloomington USA with Prof. Melkus, Odnopossoff and Gulli. He has won prizes at International competitions in Colmar, France and Forte dei Marmi, Italy. In 1976 he came to Australia where he taught at USQ, VCA, and Melbourne University and recently retired from his position as Senior Lecturer at UQ.
Spiros has recorded for Deutsche Gramophone, Harmonia Mundi, and Grevillea Records, over 65 LPs and for many Radio and TV stations around the world. He tours regularly in Australia and overseas. In Australia he founded the “Rantos Collegium”, later renamed to “Melbourne Chamber Orchestra” and the “Brisbane Chamber Orchestra”. From 1986 to 1996 he also conducted the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, The MCAE Symphony orchestra and the Chamber Strings of Melbourne in numerous overseas tours and local performances.
